Bushnell Binoculars Reviews

Bushnell Binoculars Reviews

One of the biggest names in binoculars for the last several decades has been Bushnell Binoculars. If you’re interested in purchasing high-quality binoculars for any reason, you may want to consider learning more about the brand’s history and production selection by reading below.

Bushnell Background

Bushnell Binoculars has been doing business in the United States for more than five decades. Their success can be traced back to one man: the company’s founder and namesake David Bushnell. His idea for the company came during World War II.

At the time, he worked as a quartermaster in Japan and was responsible for sending information back to the United States on the products being produced in the Asian country.

Bushnell discovered that the optics technology used in the country’s products were impressive despite an overall disappointing quality.

However, Bushnell also knew that binoculars were not something available for purchase to the average person in the U. S. The prices were so high that only the wealthy could afford them.

To change that, he began importing the inexpensive Japanese binoculars into the country and selling them through ads placed in magazines.

These first binoculars were sold for the low, low price of ten cents in 1948. This idea was the start of the Bushnell Binoculars Corporation.

Although the company started with the sale of binoculars, today they have a wide range of products, including award winning rifle scopes and nigh vision goggles.

Through continued expansion, development, and growth, the company has been able to now include more than 10 brands. Even though the company was founded in the United States with products from Japan, today the company is even more diverse internationally. Corporate offices are located on four continents and are sold in more than two dozen countries.

Bushnell Binoculars Range

The company’s catalog of binoculars is one of the most impressive available. That may explain why the company is the country’s larger producers of binoculars. Below are some of the top products available and a bit of information about what makes them so phenomenal compared to the competition.

Elite

This product was the winner of the Best of the Best in 2005 from Field & Stream. This is one of the original binocular designs created by the company and is still one of the most popular.

Not only are they the brightest in this particular class, but their waterproof and fog-proof design mean you can use them longer and in more instances than is possible with the competition.

The binoculars are also designed to be lighter so your arms won’t get as sore from holding them up for a long period of time. They only weigh about 8 ounces. Also, the binoculars can achieve eight or ten time magnification which is quite good for binoculars in this price class.

Excursion

While the Elite binoculars were some of the first to sell for more than $1,000, if your budget is about one-fifth of that price tag, you’ll probably want to consider the Excursion instead.

These are available in several specific models at 8 to 10 time magnification levels. Like the more expensive models, the Excursion also comes with a water-proof and fog-proof design for longer and more versatile use.

These are ideal for outdoor use so if you want to use some for hunting or for watching the big game from the bleachers without spending a fortune these are a good choice.

Marine

While the Excursion might be a great choice for most outdoor adventures, if you’re going to be enjoying the ocean you might want to choose the aptly named Marine products instead.

These affordable binoculars not only include the best features available through Bushnell, including BaK-4 prisms for brighter viewing and fog-proof protection but they go a couple steps further.

For starters, the binoculars are nitrogen-purged this means they are protected from any type of moisture that might seep inside and cause serious damage. Plus, they come with non-slip armor cushions that make it easy to hold onto even when it or you are wet.

Finally, the binoculars are specially designed to be resistant to salt water which can cause corrosion even in water-proof products. Overall, these are your best choice if you’re going to be using them anywhere near salt water.

Permafocus

Do you need high quality binoculars for under $100 (sometimes under $50)? Then take a look at the Permafocus line from Bushnell. With models ranging from $40 to $60 in price, on average, these can be a great bargain.

Plus, the Focus-free feature of the binoculars means you can enjoy seeing all of the distant action without having to make adjustments to the magnification or position. That also makes them one of the easiest pairs to use.

Falcon

As one of the cheapest brands available through Bushnell, the Falcon provides plenty of great features. In addition to the standard great features, the Falcon comes with InstaFocus which means they are superior in their ability to follow moving objects.

That means if you’re doing any type of hunting or if you’re watching any type of performance.

Bushnell Binoculars Accessories

Although Bushnell offers about 18 different types of binoculars which all in their own unique varieties as well, that selection is only one consideration.

You might also want to keep in mind the available accessories from your binoculars’ manufacturer. With Bushnell, you can purchase a wide variety of accessories that will work perfectly with their products.

One of the most useful accessories is the tripod. Although normally used for the recording and preservation of important events, you might consider a tripod if you prefer to keep your hands free even when you need to be seeing things more close up.

For example, you might not want your hands encumbered during your favorite sporting event when your hands need to be free. Other accessories allow you to mount your binoculars to your car window and for using them as spotting scopes.

Overall, it’s easy to see how Bushnell Binoculars earned its reputation.
