HMV-B-10X25B Humvee Compact Binoculars, 12x25

by Chris N.

Humvee, famous already for their military vehicles, have recently branded their own line of tactical gear and optics. Among these are the HMV-B-10x25B compact binoculars.

These are a rubberized compact, folding pair of binoculars with a mounted string piece for neck strap. They are marked and graded 12x25DCF 96M/1000M. Optics are coated with the basics, but not exactly fog proof.

These binoculars, marked "Made in China" are of decent quality and construction for very basic tasks. The optics aren't exactly mind blowing, and due to the small exit diameter, light gathering isn't exactly perfect. You may notice in low light settings you won't get very bright optics. But in well lit areas, these binoculars will do as they are told and are more than serviceable. They have a single adjustment wheel for focus. This feature works about as well as you'd imagine a cheaper pair of binoculars would.

I bought these because they were cheap, for a good pair of knock-around easily carried/concealed binoculars. I took them on a seven day backpacking/hiking trip for various sightseeing. I got them on sale for 9.99 at a local sporting goods store, but they MSRP at somewhere around $20. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd pay quite that much for this particular pair when I could get a pair of Barskas for probably 15... but everyone has their preference, and these binoculars did exactly what they were supposed to. So I consider my purchase to have been satisfying.

If you need a cheap but rugged and serviceable pair of compacts, you might look into this model. Try them out if you can, and look for them on sale. You can't exactly go wrong.
