Leupold Katmai 8x32 Binoculars

by Matt
(Elko, Nevada, Elko)

The Leupold Katmai series of binoculars are an excellent choice for the discriminating outdoors man looking for a, light, reasonably priced, and fully functional pair of binoculars.

After spending my first Elk season with a permanent crick in my neck form my heavy high power binoculars. I embarked on a quest to find a nice light pair that would not lack the quality and functionality of my full sized pair.

I went through several pairs of binoculars before finding the Katmai. Many optics companies sell a compact binocular but many do not seem to give much regard to someone that needs a full field of view, and light absorbing technology that most hunters need when out in the field in dense and low light conditions.

The Leupold Katmai, is not as small and light as other brands of compact binocular but makes up for it in several other key areas. first and foremost it has good full sized lenses that give a very large field of view, with good clear and crisp image all the way out to the edges, as well as excellent light gathering ability. That in itself is enough for anyone wanting a smaller pair of binoculars to purchase these, but here are some other little features that make the Katmai one of the best on the market:
- Collapsible eye cups make it easy for someone who wears glasses to use these binoculars with out constantly taking their glasses on and off.
- A large wide neck strap distributes the weight of the binoculars very well, cutting down on the fatigue of carrying these binoculars for long hours.

- They come equipped with attached eye cap covers that keep the dust from the trails from building up on you lenses.
- As well as nice stiff focus adjustments that don't get moved around, and needing adjustment every time you pick them up.

In Short the Katmai is not the lightest or smallest pair of compact binoculars you could get, but the other benefits well make up for their shortcomings. They are well made and I'm sure they will be accompanying me on my more adventures to come.
