The Vivitar 7x50 binoculars are defiantly a beginner’s pair of binoculars. But for a very reasonable pair of binoculars, they get the job done. The ruby coated lenses cut down a lot of glare, and the center focus makes it very simple to adjust quickly. Although a little heavy, they are fairly comfortable to use.
Being very reasonably priced has its draw backs, though. The lack of a neck strap is a big concern of mine, as my young son has accidentally dropped them on a few occasions. I have also lost one of the lenses covers because they lack any kind of tether system. The carry case is big enough to make it easy to slide the binoculars in or out, but it is a soft side case which cannot take too much abuse. (I.e. tossed behind the seat of a pickup.)
My biggest concern would have to be the plastic brackets that the eye pieces are attached to. I’ve owned my pair for a little over a year with moderate use and although the brackets are very flimsy, they have not cracked or broke. But I still worry about them.
All in all, I found the Vivitar 7x50 binoculars to be a good pair of binoculars for someone who wants to have a pair in the house, but not spend a fortune on them. If you are looking for binoculars that are going to have to take a bit of abuse, you might want to look at a different model.
